"As Chairman of the Murphy Art Walk Committee I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people who supported our efforts during the 2017 May through December Art Walk year. Without all these people Art Walk would not have been so successful.
Thanks to the numerous business owners in Murphy who so graciously offered both their support and their patronage on so many levels. Thanks to the artists who set up their tables outside, along the sidewalks monthly, offering their unique and one of a kind items that were both beautiful and creative. To all the people who attended Art Walk monthly, a huge thank you. Your support was imperative to Art Walk's success.
Thanks to the Art Walk Committee who made it fun and insured that all the parts came together. A big thank you to all the members of the Valley River Arts Guild who always helped things run smoothly.
Finally, thanks to Ben Katz and Samantha Sinclair (and all the others at the Scout), all the media promotions from the radio stations, bill boards, Facebook and other publications for consistently keeping the public informed of our event. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of Art Walk. I appreciate all the coverage and all the support from everyone.
If you are an artist who would like to be involved in Art Walk for the 2018 season, please feel free to contact me through the MAC. Remember May 2018 we'll see you on the first Friday of the month."
Thanks again,
Sandy Wheeler

For each month of Art Walk, the VRAG will place two painted rocks in active art walk participating merchants. The rocks are painted, one with the letters "MAC" and the other with letters "VRAG".
A picture of the rocks will be posted on the following: Facebook pages VRAG, Murphy Rocks, and the Murphy Mouth prior to Art Walk. The post will read with the statement directing "On Art Walk night find either of these two painted rocks hidden inside a sponsoring merchant, bring it to the MAC during Art Walk and receive a $20 VRAG/MAC gift certificate." A list of participating merchants can be found inside any Art Walk brochure or look for downtown merchant with a "Proud Sponsor" of Art Walk decal.

Art Walk is scheduled to begin on the first Friday of each month from May to December where art and artists are showcased in the shops and on the sidewalks. Downtown businesses are encouraged to actively participate in Art Walk by remaining open until 8 pm, following any Art Walk themes, and hosting demonstrating artists and musicians in their store front/sidewalk.
Art Walk activities include demonstrating artists: painting, drawing, creating a variety of arts and crafts, along with musicians and assorted performing artists engaging the downtown visitors. Many merchants have live music and art on display inside their shops and restaurants. During each Friday's Art Walk, Valley River Arts Gallery will remain open until 8 pm.
No Art Walk is the same, and visitors to the area will find the uniqueness and variety of each event as an opportunity to sample the unique rich artistic culture of western North Carolina. One addition to this year's art walk will be activities in a "Kid's Korner" including face painting, rock painting, and creative activities for children.
Artists interested in participating in Art Walk are encouraged to register below. There is no fee for setting up as an Artist. We request that artist setting up for Art Walk set up with participating downtown merchants as identified on the 2017 Art Walk brochure map above.
