My husband George and I have an art ministry and discipleship ministry called Murphy Mountain Mission. We were missionaries in China for six years and had to leave because of government-related reasons. While in China I used art as a means to reach Chinese people with the Gospel. I taught art lessons in my apartment, taught art healing workshops, and taught Biblical related art lessons at high school and college camps.
After moving back to the United States we wanted to continue the work that God had taught us to do in China. God lead us to Murphy, NC, and lead us to start Murphy Mountain Mission. We seek to reach out to churches in the surrounding 300-mile radius of Murphy. We want to encourage people in congregations to invite people from the community to participate in art workshops, art lessons, or art healing workshops. This encourages fellowship with people who might not normally come to church. It also gives the church an opportunity to meet new people in the community. It also gives an opportunity for those interested in art to have a free lesson in art whereas they might have never been able to afford the experience.
